Moved Blog to WordPress.com

I just moved this blog from my own server to wordpress.com. Reason: I plan to get rid of the server. I don’t have time to really do anything fancy with it and it basically just costs money and time for maintenance.
Any kind of photos are now hosted on picasa webalbums. For the migration, I wrote a php script which reads out an existing wordpress blog (self-hosted or wordpress.com), searches for wp-gallery-remote tags, downloads the respective photos from the gallery, uploads them to picasa webalbums and updates the blog post again. That made migrating around 60 albums and almost 200 blog posts quiet easy.

I am not sure yet, whether the old RSS link (via feedburner) is still working. Well, I’ll see after pressing the publish button for this post. :-)

So far…

1blu vServer still available

Unbelievable!

It is now one year ago, that I cancelled my contract for a 1blu vServer and transferred everything to Host Europe. And believe it or not…my old vServer is still available. In the past 12 months I reinstalled it several times to try out different software installations. I am really wondering whether there are many people like me who cancelled their contract and still have access to their servers… :-)

Moved again…

So, I did it again. ;-)
This site is now located on a Host Europe vServer. So far…it’s working great. :-D

thebartels.eu online!

I got my first .eu domain! And it is working! Even with 1blu! ;-)

No, really…1blu sucks. I cannot say anything else. There are so many problems with their vServer infrastructure….it’s ridiculous. The servers are really slow and I am sometimes not able to login anymore through plesk or ssh. Plesk’s firewall- and vpn-modules do not work. I am not able to install new packages on the system using Suse’s Yast tool and many, many other problems.
Also 1blu’s customer information system does not work correctly. (Problems editing domain settings and so on.)
Therefore I decided to switch the provider again. I ordered a vServer at Host Europe. I hope I will get access to the new server today. The first “welcome mails” which I got sounded promising. Clear information, defined contact persons and so on. I hope the appearences are not deceiving…:-)

So long…stay tuned… ;-)
